TEKION
Vendor Info
History
In 2016, ex-Telsa technology executives Jay Vijayan and Guru Sankararaman co-founded Tekion. Their vision: To disrupt the automotive retail industry with an end-to-end platform that connects automakers, dealerships, and customers, while putting user experience at the center of Tekion’s platform design.
Tekion quickly raised substantial funding and hired a world-class engineering team. Yet, generating design momentum proved a challenge. Tekion needed an external design partner that could handle the complexity of enterprise software, keep pace, and meet the startup’s high expectations.

It is great in accounting, and sales. Every now and then have some hiccups in parts and service. Some user error, some are system errors. Very user friendly and easy for new employees to learn.
-
Pros
Ease of use, newer technology, web based, forward thinking.
-
Cons
Random errors in parts and service, set ups / premissions are not very straight forward. The install team was good, but some of there other support is lacking. Reporting has a lot of filters that can make it complex.

I believe Tekion is the future. Our younger associates adapted well after implementation. Our olders still struggle a bit after 3 months on the system. I believe this will improve over time.
-
Pros
Most everything is under one roof, DMS, CRM, Service Scheduling, MPI.
-
Cons
Weak on vehicle inventory management. Still need a third party integration.

Pre installation work was not sufficient for accurate setup to be in place at go live - with the exception of sales. Easy to use and easy to train new hires.
-
Pros
Software is great and work flow makes sense, as opposed to in/out of functions with previous DMS. Reporting storage is at your fingertips.
-
Cons
Would like something different for expense review at month end - there are options but this is one of maybe a couple of things I miss about the old DMS - CDK.

stay away. the training and the set up was awful. months before the set up we sent all the info needed to be prepared. they spent the 5 day live training to set up what should have been set up already. the training lacked in all departments. After navigating and figuring out how to use the system i can confirm it is not user friendly, every step takes 3 times longer than any other DMS i have ever used.

For accounting it lacks in many areas. There are definitely more key stokes to get functions completed. Not a good audit trail.
-
Pros
Tekion pay is ok
-
Cons
Poor trail Accounting functional lacks efficiency Takes longer to get things done Does not “automatically” update postings/entries The system is basically a fragmented system. Each “area” has its own piece that does not talk well with the other “pieces”.

Great system with tons of potential but still very buggy and very much akin to the "early stages of the iPhone". The system has a ton of potential and I believe they will get it right in the long run.
-
Pros
All in one solution. Web based. East to use.
-
Cons
Very buggy and still in need of refinement. Because of their rapid growth, installation was challenging, as is tech support due to the lack of knowledge of many of their people.

its Glitchey, Does random stuff you can never prepare for or catch until its too late. I've been doing this 25yrs and I've never seen a program just randomly populate as much crap as tekion does.
-
Pros
Give me 6 months to think and check back with me
-
Cons
I would say 1 major con having Tekion as a DMS is you have to use it. I have no choice in the matter

Terrible installation and training. The Tekion employees sent to set up our store had very little product knowledge, and left us picking up pieces after they left. Would not recommend
-
Pros
The ability to add file attachments, pictures, and videos is very nice. Also, month end is an easier process with digital ROs vs paper ROs
-
Cons
GM requires us to OBDII dongle scan every car that comes through the service drive. Tekion has its own proprietary hardware/dongle scanners. They are problematic; can't hold a charge, internal software failures, unable to scan vehicles, etc. I was promised 1 dongle per advisor, I have 3 advisors and 1 dongle. I have never had more than 2 dongles. If my current 1 functional dongle fails, I will not be able to process any warranty claims. Tekion has not been able to provide adequate hardware and checking in cars is a nightmare.

It still needs a lot of improvements. Should really be in Pilot Mode for all of the things that are still wrong. We still feel we have been the guinea pig with this system.
-
Pros
Not many
-
Cons
Still should be a Pilot program for all of the things that are not user friendly. Much more work than our old DMS, which was Auto Soft. Support has been very spotty also.

Tekion promised a big game, and delivered on some of it. Did they cut our cost in half? No...but we are saving $5-7000/month from previous DMS.
-
Pros
Cloud based, functionality, reporting
-
Cons
Customer support is not much better than previous DMS, getting them to implement a change can be difficult
